Butterflies

Butterflies wake up
And flutter through the day,
In and out of lives,
In and out of dreams.
The world’s burdens
Hang on their wings
And fall far away.
Words of a thousand poets
Drift along on the butterfly.
Its wings allow imaginations to soar.
They let us live forever.

  1. Thanks for your poem about one of my favorite living things. Butterflies hold so much meaning, as your lines capture. My favorite butterfly experiences was spotting a blue butterfly in the jungles of Panama... a privilege I had thanks to Uncle Sam who assigned my Army chaplain husband there. I also have enjoyed having butterflies light on and all around me in the butterfly garden at the Indianapolis Zoo and Gardens. It feels magical to have so many different butterflies all around you. I love the butterfly as a metaphor for eternal life.
